Make Coffee Candles

Here’s a great way to use up your coffee grounds and old candles you might still have around. Here’s what you’ll need for this creative way to use coffee grounds for one candle:

  • Small paper coffee cup
  • 2 tablespoons of used coffee grounds
  • Paper towel
  • 1 cup of old candles
  • Candle wick
  • Scissors
  • Small saucepan
  • Small glass or metal mixing bowl

The first thing you’ll want to do is make the base of the candle. Take the old candles and put them in the small mixing bowl and then put this over the top of the saucepan that’s filled halfway with water. Bring the water to simmer and then watch it closely as the wax melts. This takes about five minutes.

Make sure the paper coffee cup is clean and dry and then put the coffee grounds in the paper towel and squeeze out any excess liquid. Put the wick in the middle of the cup and then put a layer of coffee grounds at the base of the cup.

Take the melted wax and carefully pour half of it over your coffee grounds and wick and let the wax harden for about 20 minutes. Set the rest of the wax aside for later.

For the second layer of the candle, take the rest of the coffee grounds and pour them on top of the cooled wax. Then rewarm the leftover wax and then pour it in the coffee cup to top off your candle.

Let your coffee grounds candle cool off for at least an hour. Once the candle has hardened you can take the scissors and cut away the coffee cup to reveal your coffee candle. Put your coffee grounds candle on a flat candle holder, light and enjoy the nice subtle scent of coffee as it burns.
